Last October 20, 2016 the Province of Cagayan was devastated by the Super Typhoon Lawin (International Name: HAIMA) where the storm signal was raised to Signal # 5 (220km/h sustained winds). This situation rendered helpless families without food, clothing and shelter. There were about 36,000 people in 25 towns and 148 barangays were affected by the super typhoon. Thousands of people are still in the evacuation center as their houses were damaged and flooded. Some roads in the Province are impassable due to landslides and toppled trees and electric posts and there is intermittent mobile communication lines.
